  • To explain how to score the scale
  • To explain how to do the front sheet sums
  • To understand and practice interpreting what the sums show us
  • To understand and practice how to qualitatively analyse what the client’s answers to the questions in the scale tell us
  • To learn about the different ways to write up your analysis.

This module is about building on and practicing the things you learned in the 2 day course you attended.  It provides more detail and examples of how to analyse the Scale.  It also gives you examples of the report formats you will need to follow for the assignments.

The questionnaire was developed in the late 1950’s, when it was first called the “Social Function Scale”(S.F.S.). Further development in 1960’s produced a version akin to the current edition which became known as the “Heimler Scale of Social Functioning” (HSSF). Many people now refer to it as The Heimler Scale, or simply the Scale.

Completing this module will help you build on the learning from the face to face training session and gain a good understanding of the questionnaire, front sheet and analysis, before using it with clients, which is covered in Module 4.
