Module 2 – The HSF Contribution

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]As well as what is unique to HSF, HSF interviewing emphasises the following elements:

Client Centred

Of groups, settings and professional disciplines.

Use of Scale

Other methods make use of their own, or others questionnaires, HSF has the Heimler Approach that not only puts the client at the centre of the stage but also genuinely defers to the client’s wisdom.

Listening

With a view not to interpreting what is said, but simply understanding it for its own sake. This is different from most counselling approaches to listening. Those trained in other methods can often find HSF listening very hard to incorporate.

Mirroring

Which keeps faithfully to the language and frame of reference of the Interviewee, and which picks up key words.

Summarising

Again without interpreting, simply distilling what has already been given.

Use of Questions

HSF, as some other methods, uses skilled questioning a lot, but in a less interpretive manner.

Themes

Encouraging the Interviewee to draw out meaningful themes from the material is a core element not often found elsewhere.

Stages of the Interview

Which, as with other methods, have only been spelt out in more recent years.

Action

A core element for more behaviourist methods, and now taken up by others.

Concept of Time Zones

Time past and present and their interaction is cardinal to many methods, HSF shares these, and uses its own model of T1, T2, T3.

Concept of Levels of life

Shared with other psychodynamic and developmental methods, HSF has its own model of Levels of Life, L1, L2, and L3

Wide Applications

Perhaps more than most methods, the HSF interview can be used in a wide range Scale which has been found by researchers to be particularly sophisticated and to have a predictive value.

Active Imagination
